Amazon has started withholding the tag “verified purchase” from some products sold at a discount. What has changed? The classification of a review is what has changed but a discounted conversion still counts as a conversion.
A product review is still posted and the star rating counts toward the overall star rating. Offering products at a discount is still one of the most effective ways to launch and market a product on Amazon.com. Not to mention that increased conversions improves sales rank.
This is actually good news for sellers who use discounts to promote their products. We know Amazon has been tweaking its policies to maintain transparency in the review system. Amazon is making an effort to remove the verified badge on some items purchased at a discount instead of removing the review completely. This exemplifies how Amazon is making a conscious effort to incorporate these types of reviews into its system.
It wouldn’t be surprising if Amazon added a new review badge identifying if an item was purchased with a discount.
Amazon did not explain the change, but simply rolled out the new policy update unannounced.Amazon made a similar change to its review policy a few months ago requiring discounted product reviews to contain a clarifying statement, stating: “I received this product at a discount in exchange for a review.” And if a review wasn’t labeled appropriately it was removed.
In order to maximize Snagshout campaigns to produce both standard reviews and verified purchase reviews, a feature was recently added asking buyers to post their opinions to social media sites (such as Twitter and Facebook) with a link to the seller’s Amazon page. These social media links send traffic to a seller’s Amazon page for users to purchase at full price.
