In the last post titled Listing Your Product, we discussed how to make a good product listing on Amazon. In this post, we are going to continue to focus on marketing, specifically how to get a better Amazon ranking for your product.
To make lots of money on Amazon, you need your product to rank. The better the ranking, the better off you will be. You want your product to be one of the first products that come up when someone searches for it on Amazon. This is called search engine optimization or SEO. In order for your product to be one of the first products that shows up when consumers search for it, you need to understand the algorithm Amazon uses to rank its products. Amazon employees are the only people who know the exact algorithm, but it seems like it boils down to two major components.
Conversion rate is the first component Amazon most likely uses to rank products. Conversion rate is the rate of converting site visitors into paying customers. The higher the conversion rate, the higher your sales and ranking will be.
Product reviews are the second component Amazon most likely uses to rank products. Product reviews are simply online reviews that customers leave about your product. The more good product reviews you have, the higher your ranking will be.
A higher conversion rate plus more product reviews usually equals a higher ranking. You are probably asking yourself how to do this. The good news is that it really is not that hard. Most sellers choose to launch a marketing campaign through various channels to get an initial burst of activity. This burst of activity usually results in a boost in the product’s ranking.
The first channel is Seller Labs. Seller Labs is currently working on a product that will help you increase your product ranking by increasing your number of product reviews. If you are interested, visit Feedbackgenius.com for more information. Another popular channel is Google Ad Words. Google Ad Words advertises your product through Google. Social media channels such as Facebook, YouTube, and Pinterest are also some channels sellers use to advertise their product.
Make sure you are directing all of your product traffic to your Amazon listing. This will increase your product rank assuming they convert. Many sellers use a promo code or some sort of discount when they first list their product so they can get that initial burst of activity. This burst of activity leads to a higher product rank. For the people that do purchase your product, follow up with them, and get them to leave a product review.
Assuming your marketing campaign works out, then you should end up on the first or second page of Amazon. If your product is priced correctly, you have a good listing, and have steady sales, you should stay on the first or second page and start raking in profits.
