To create a multi-pack on my first Amazon FBA shipment I used a corrugated box measuring 9″ x 6″ x 3″.The box worked, but there was plenty of room for improvement to save money and increase profit margins.
Each box cost $0.285. I was able to change it for a plastic poly bag for $0.185 – a savings a $0.10 per item – totaling $1.20.
I saved an additional amount by decreasing the amount of weight I shipped. My first shipment in early January (using corrugated boxes to create multi-packs) cost $22.53 to ship 46 lbs. This past week, I shipped the same product, to the same Amazon distribution center, for $21.82 for 43.4 lbs. Savings on shipping costs came to $0.71 on the lesser weight shipment.
Total savings by changing to a plastic poly bag was $1.91.
I already know I will save more money by packaging 14 in a box. I will save more money on shipping, but over time I will decrease the number of master shipping cases need to send product. Here is a video of what I did:
