The Amazon Risk Check Most Sellers Skip, with Lesley Hensell

Monetizing Your Mental Capital, Season 3, Episode 9. Host: Will Christensen. Guest: Lesley Hensell. Recorded February 2026.

Is a listing sitting quietly in your inventory right now putting your whole Amazon account at risk?

In this episode of Monetizing Your Mental Capital, Will Christensen sits down with Lesley Hensell, who spent 13 years helping Amazon sellers recover suspended accounts and ASINs before selling her business, Riverbend, last year. She now consults independently, working one-on-one with sellers on account health and risk management, and has helped thousands of people get suspended accounts back after working on thousands of ASINs.

Lesley walks through how to evaluate whether a product could get you suspended before you ever list it, using real examples including a kitchen blow torch with reviews describing burns and a heated seat cover that started a car fire. She explains the difference between testing requirements for private label sellers versus resellers, where to find Amazon's official list of recommended testing labs, and which categories (health and beauty, children's products, anything that plugs into a wall) draw the most scrutiny.

She also gives a simple weekly habit: check your account health dashboard, respond to every complaint even if you expect to lose the appeal, and delete any inactive or never-sold listings from your inventory, since Amazon treats leftover listings as a sign of drop shipping risk. Lesley shares a story about a client's team that got their business back online after a shutdown, along with harder stories about the toll suspensions take on sellers, including one client who died by suicide, to make the case that risk management is about people, not just policy.

Note: Amazon now points sellers to accepted testing providers through the Service Provider Network in Seller Central, and only accepts reports from labs that meet its standards. Check the Suspended Validation Labs list in the Compliance Portal before you commission a test.
