Monetizing Your Mental Capital, Season 3, Episode 7. Host: Will Christensen. Guest: Drew Hart. Recorded April 2026.
Losing your buy box to a reseller and don't know why?
In this episode of Monetizing Your Mental Capital, Will Christensen sits down with returning guest Drew Hart, who built and sold two Amazon brands before starting Vinculum, an agency where he and his 35-person team now manage more than 50 brands across categories from pool furniture to commodity products.
Drew breaks down why most agencies still treat advertising and marketplace operations as separate silos, and why that split costs sellers money. He walks through how resellers hijack listings and steal the buy box, why running ads while you have a reseller problem just sends sales to someone else, and the specific playbook his team uses to fight back: trademark and Brand Registry documentation, cease-and-desist templates, alert systems that flag buy box loss in real time, and a warranty-based tactic to get unauthorized resellers delisted since they can't honor a manufacturer's warranty.
He also covers why a listing going down for just four days can cost 1% of annual revenue (more during peak season), Amazon's newer inventory-level fee for dropping below roughly 28 days of stock, and the "product motivation ladder" framework his team built to lift conversion rate, which he says can move top-line revenue by about 5% and bottom-line by about 6% for every 1 percentage point of conversion rate gained.
Note: Amazon's low-inventory-level fee has been revised since this episode was recorded (it is now assessed per FNSKU, and third-party reports differ on the current days-of-supply threshold). Check the current FBA fee page in Seller Central before setting reorder points.
